(The Information) OpenAI’s loss of Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati and safety systems chief Lilian Weng has galvanized concern among some of the remaining women at the firm that the management isn’t doing enough to promote and retain women, two people who have worked at the ChatGPT maker said.
One female staffer circulated a memo to other women arguing that managers should do more to ensure that women and nonbinary staff who are already playing a big role behind the scenes hold more visible positions of leadership. The memo, seen by The Information, highlights the continuing fallout at OpenAI from the exit of Murati and another female leader, former head of safety systems Lilian Weng.
CEO Sam Altman is aware that discussions about OpenAI’s gender disparity were taking place, though it’s not clear whether he was aware of the memo, according to a person who has spoken to him.
